Bricanyl Inhaler contains the active ingredient Terbutaline sulphate. Terbutaline belongs to a group of drugs known as Beta-2- agonists. This medication group has a proven and established track record in treating the symptoms of certain respiratory diseases such as asthma and COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
Bricanyl is available in various formulations and dosages:
- Inhaler (Turbohaler) device
Bricanyl (Terbutaline sulphate) is a B2-agonist. It binds to B2 receptors along the smooth muscles of the airways inducing muscle relaxation. This opens up the airways and allows you to breathe freely just as normal. Bricanyl Turbohaler is therefore a ‘reliever’.
Breath-actuated Dry Powder inhaler
A key advantage of the Turbohaler over conventional inhalers (MDI’s) is that it is breath-actuated, it does not require you to press down and time the inhalation to receive a correct dose. The number of doses used is also recorded.
Relieves symptoms of asthma:
Bricanyl provides a quick relief for asthma attacks. Asthma is a disorder that is characterised by airway contraction causing difficulty in breathing. Terbutaline relaxes muscles along the airways, minimising the symptoms associated with asthma such as difficulty breathing and coughs.
Use in COPD:
The daily use of Bricanyl can also benefit COPD patients helping them to relieve symptoms of shortness and difficulty in breathing.
