Warticon is a genital wart treatment which is available as a cream and as a solution form. It is used for warts on the foreskin of the penis in men or external warts on the vagina in females. What does Warticon do to warts?

How to use Warticon?

Warticon cream or solution should be applied every 12 hours (twice a day) for 3 consecutive days follow by a 4 days gap. This is considered as one treatment course. If the warts have not cleared after a full 4 course of treatments you should consult your GP or sexual health clinic for alternate treatment options.

How to use Warticon cream:
  • Before applying Warticon cream make sure you wash the affected area with soapy water and dry with a clean towel.
  • Use your fingertip to apply Warticon cream on each wart. It may be easier to view the affected area with the help of a mirror.
  • Use only enough to cover each wart and allow the cream to dry.
  • Make sure the cream does not get in contact with healthy skin. If this happens wash the cream off immediately with soap and water.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly after the application.
How to use Warticon solution:
  • Before applying Warticon solution make sure to wash the affected area with soap and water and dry gently with a clean towel.
  • Use a new applicator each time you apply Warticon solution
  • Dip the loop end of the applicator into the solution for small warts. Use the spatula end of the applicator If you have lots of warts in a small area or a large wart.
  • Apply just enough solution to cover the affected area and allow it to dry.
  • Be careful not to get any solution in contact with healthy skin. If this happens wash the area with soap and water.
  • After the application make sure the lid is screwed on tightly.
How long does Warticon take to work?

Your wart should be cleared after 4 full course of treatments. You should consult your GP or sexual health clinic for alternate treatment options if the warts have not cleared after a full 4 course of treatments.

What else should I know about Warticon treatment:
  • Avoid getting Warticon cream or solution on to cut, open wounds and normal skin.
  • Avoid unprotected sexual activity soon after application because of possible irritant effect on your partner.
  • Warticon solution is blue and may leave a blue stain throughout the treatment which is temporary. Warticon cream is white and disappears once its soaked in.
  • Warticon solution is flammable. Store the medicine away from fire and keep away from fire after you have applied the medicine.
  • You won’t see a faster result by using excessive cream or solution or more often than recommended course of treatment.
  • You do not have to cover the area treated with a dressing after applying the treatment.
Warticon cream or Warticon solution?

Warticon 0.15% cream and Warticon 0.5% solution both contain the same active ingredient Podophyllotoxin. Even though cream is easier to apply, research suggests that Podophyllotoxin 0.5% solution may have slightly greater level of effectiveness compared to its counterpart Podophyllotoxin 0.15% cream.

Warticon side effects:

Like all medicines, Warticon can cause side effects, although not everybody will get them. It can cause local irritation after second or third day of application and decreases after treatment is discontinued. In most cases the reactions are minor but if you experience any of the following serious side effects you should stop using Warticon and seek emergency medical attention:

severe burning, stinging, pain, bleeding, itching or swelling of the treated skin. If these symptoms occur, wash Warticon off from your skin with soap and water immediately.

Warticon or Aldara?

Warticon and Adlara are both genital wart treatments whereas Warticon contain the active ingredient Podophyllotoxin and Aldara is an immune response modifier.

Generally, Warticon treatments are cheaper than Aldara cream.

Aldara cream is more effective at preventing the recurrence of an outbreak than Warticon.

You can see faster result with Warticon treatments as it takes up to 4 weeks to take full effect whereas Aldara cream takes up to16 weeks to work.
