Adults aged 18 and over, assessed under Access Doctor's Impetigo policy, with a single or a few small patches of localised, non-bullous impetigo, who are not systemically unwell. Not suitable for bullous impetigo, widespread infection, or lesions near the eyes — see the alternative products on this treatment page for those situations.
Crystacide is a hydrogen peroxide 1% cream used as first-line treatment for a localised, non-bullous impetigo skin infection in patients who are not otherwise unwell. It is an effective, non-antibiotic option, helping reduce unnecessary antibiotic use for straightforward cases.
Apply to the affected area 2–3 times daily for 5 days, using a clean fingertip or cotton bud. Wash hands before and after application. Avoid contact with the eyes. Seek review if the infection is not settling within 5 days, or if it gets worse at any point.
May cause transient stinging on application, and can bleach hair, fabric, and coloured surfaces on contact — take care with clothing and bedding. Avoid the eyes. Not suitable if the affected area is on or immediately next to the eyelids — mupirocin or fusidic acid may be used instead in that case. Stop use and seek medical advice if the area shows spreading redness, swelling, or you develop a fever or feel unwell.
