Daktacort Hydrocortisone Cream contains two active ingredients. Miconazole nitrate 2% is an antifungal that treats the fungal infection behind athlete's foot, and hydrocortisone 1% is a mild corticosteroid that calms redness, swelling and itching.
It's licensed for athlete's foot and candidal intertrigo (a yeast infection in skin folds) where the skin is also inflamed. Because it contains a steroid, it's only used for a short time, up to 7 days, and it isn't suitable for every type of rash. That's why our pharmacy team checks your answers before it's supplied.
| Active ingredients | Miconazole nitrate 2%, hydrocortisone 1% |
| Drug class | Imidazole antifungal with a mild corticosteroid |
| How to apply | Thin layer twice daily |
| Course length | Up to 7 days |
| Treats | Inflamed athlete's foot and candidal intertrigo |
| Pack size | 15g tube |
Wash and dry the affected area thoroughly, paying particular attention to the skin between the toes.
Apply a thin layer of cream twice a day and rub it in gently. Wash your hands afterwards.
Use it for no longer than 7 days, and don't cover the area with a dressing or plaster unless a healthcare professional advises you to.
If your skin hasn't improved after 7 days, stop using it and speak to our pharmacist or your GP.
Daktacort is for athlete's foot that's red, sore, swollen or very itchy. The hydrocortisone calms the inflammation while the miconazole treats the fungus. For most athlete's foot, a plain antifungal cream such as terbinafine or clotrimazole is enough.
No more than 7 days. If the infection still needs treating after that, carry on with an antifungal cream that doesn't contain a steroid. Speak to our pharmacist or your GP if your skin hasn't improved within 7 days.
It's licensed for athlete's foot and for yeast infections in skin folds with inflammation. Don't use it on your face, near your eyes, on broken skin or on large areas, and don't use it on ringworm elsewhere on the body unless a doctor has prescribed it.
It's generally avoided in pregnancy because it contains a steroid. If you're pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding, tell us in your consultation and our pharmacist will advise on a suitable alternative.
