Wegovy tablets (semaglutide), often called the Wegovy pill, are a once-daily tablet form of the same active ingredient as Wegovy injections, made by Novo Nordisk. Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist: it acts on areas of the brain involved in appetite and fullness and slows how quickly the stomach empties. It is licensed for weight management in adults, used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.
Wegovy tablets are licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with at least one weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. These are the same criteria as the Wegovy injection. Before anything is prescribed, a GPhC-registered pharmacist independent prescriber reviews your medical history and medicines and checks your weight independently (either video consultation or GP records). How often your treatment is reviewed is agreed at your first consultation.
Treatment starts at 1.5mg and increases in monthly steps to the 25mg maintenance dose. Each standard pack contains 30 tablets, one month at one tablet a day. If you would like a smaller first supply, we also offer a 10-day pack of the 1.5mg starting dose.

Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist that mimics a hormone your gut releases after eating. It is the same active ingredient as Wegovy injections, taken instead as a once-daily tablet.
It acts on areas of the brain involved in appetite and fullness, so you may feel full sooner and less hungry between meals. It also slows how quickly food leaves the stomach, and it helps to regulate blood sugar by stimulating insulin release in response to meals.
Semaglutide is a peptide, which the stomach would normally break down before it could be absorbed. Wegovy tablets include an absorption enhancer called SNAC, which helps semaglutide pass through the stomach lining into the bloodstream. This is why the morning routine in the Dosage tab matters so much.
Wegovy tablets are not a stimulant and do not work by speeding up your metabolism. In the OASIS 4 trial, adults taking the 25mg dose alongside diet and activity support lost an average of 13.6% of their body weight over 64 weeks, compared with 2.2% on placebo. This is the trial's main result, counting everyone who started treatment whether or not they kept taking it. A second analysis, of people who kept taking the tablets as planned, showed an average of 16.6% (2.7% on placebo). Results vary between individuals. No. Both are oral semaglutide made by Novo Nordisk, but Rybelsus is licensed only for type 2 diabetes, at lower strengths (3mg, 7mg and 14mg). Wegovy tablets are licensed for weight management and go up to 25mg.
Not routinely. They are licensed in the UK, but routine NHS use depends on a recommendation from NICE. For now, the usual route is a private prescription after a consultation.
Skip the missed tablet and take the next one the following day as normal. Do not take two tablets on the same day.
The product information recommends contraception for women who could become pregnant, and Wegovy must not be used in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. The MHRA advises stopping semaglutide at least 2 months before trying to conceive.
