Mometasone is a corticosteroid (steroid) nasal spray that reduces inflammation and swelling inside the nose. It is widely used to relieve the congestion, facial pressure and blocked or runny nose linked to persistent and allergy-related sinusitis, allergic rhinitis (including hay fever) and nasal polyps. Used once daily, it calms the swollen sinus lining so the sinuses can drain more freely, easing pressure and improving breathing. Mometasone works best when used regularly over one to two weeks rather than only when symptoms flare. After a short online consultation, a GPhC-registered prescriber will confirm whether it is suitable for you before it is dispensed and delivered discreetly across the UK.

Gently blow your nose to clear the nostrils before use. Shake the bottle well and remove the cap. Tilt your head slightly forward, insert the nozzle into one nostril and aim it away from the centre of your nose, towards the outer wall. Press down on the spray while breathing in gently through your nose, then breathe out through your mouth, and repeat in the other nostril. The usual dose for sinusitis is two sprays into each nostril once daily; once symptoms are controlled your prescriber may reduce this to the lowest effective dose. Use it regularly every day for best results rather than only when symptoms flare. Always follow the dosing instructions given to you after your Access Doctor online consultation.

Some people notice an improvement in congestion and pressure within a day or two, but the full benefit usually builds over one to two weeks of regular daily use. It works best when used every day rather than only when symptoms flare.
The usual adult dose for sinusitis is two sprays into each nostril once daily (a total of 200 micrograms a day). Once symptoms are controlled, your prescriber may reduce you to the lowest effective maintenance dose. Always follow the instructions given after your online consultation.
Yes. Complete a short online consultation and a GPhC-registered pharmacist prescriber will review your answers to confirm whether mometasone nasal spray is suitable for you before it is dispensed and delivered discreetly across the UK.
Most people tolerate it well. The most common side effects are mild and local, such as nasal dryness or irritation, sneezing, a sore throat, a mild nosebleed or headache. Aiming the spray away from the centre of the nose helps reduce nosebleeds.
You should not use it if you are allergic to mometasone or any of the ingredients, have an untreated infection in your nose, or have recently had nasal surgery or injury until healing is complete. Tell your prescriber if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have glaucoma or cataracts, or take other corticosteroids.
Both are corticosteroid nasal sprays used for sinusitis, allergic rhinitis and nasal polyps. Mometasone is usually taken once a day, while beclometasone is typically taken twice a day. Your prescriber can advise which is more suitable for you during your consultation.
