Cialis is the original brand of tadalafil. Generic tadalafil contains the same active ingredient in the same strengths and works in the same way. It is also not suitable if a doctor has told you to avoid sex because of a heart problem, or if you have had a heart attack in the last 90 days, have angina that is unstable or comes on during sex, have had heart failure that limited your activity in the last 6 months, have an uncontrolled heart rhythm problem, have low blood pressure or uncontrolled high blood pressure, or have had a stroke in the last 6 months. Do not take it if you have lost sight in one eye from NAION. Your prescriber will also check for conditions that need caution, such as Peyronie's disease, sickle cell anaemia, leukaemia, multiple myeloma, or severe kidney or liver problems.

The most common side effects are headache, flushing, a blocked nose, indigestion, back pain and muscle aches. These are usually mild and short-lived. Get emergency help if an erection lasts more than 4 hours. Stop Cialis and get medical help immediately if you have sudden loss of vision or hearing, or signs of a serious allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips or throat, or difficulty breathing). If you get chest pain during or after sex, stop, get into a semi-sitting position and call 999 – do not use a GTN spray or any nitrate for the pain.

Never take Cialis with nitrates, nicorandil, poppers or riociguat, or with another ED medicine such as sildenafil. Cialis with doxazosin is not recommended, and other alpha-blockers such as tamsulosin need caution. Tell your prescriber if you take medicines such as ritonavir, ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin or erythromycin, which can raise tadalafil levels, or rifampicin, which can make it less effective. Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking Cialis, and avoid drinking a lot of alcohol, which can make you dizzy and make it harder to get an erection.
