Dalacin T Lotion is a tried-and-trusted treatment, demonstrated to be reliable, and developed specifically for the purpose of effectively managing acne. Formulated with clindamycin, an antibiotic that targets the bacteria that are responsible for acne. Dalacin T Lotion helps to reduce the number of acne-causing bacteria, which in turn helps to minimise breakouts and promote clearer, healthier skin.
Dalacin T is a prescription-only antibiotic lotion containing clindamycin phosphate, used to treat mild to moderate acne vulgaris. It works by stopping the bacteria responsible for acne — known as Propionibacterium acnes — from producing the proteins they need to survive and multiply. As the bacteria levels on your skin reduce, inflammation calms down and spots begin to clear. Dalacin T lotion is particularly good for oily or greasy skin, as it has a mild drying effect. It is a useful option for people who prefer a topical treatment over oral antibiotics. A consultation with one of our clinicians at Access Doctor is required before it can be prescribed.
Shake the bottle well before each use. Wash the affected area with a mild cleanser and pat it dry, then apply a thin layer of the lotion to the entire affected area — not just individual spots — either using a cotton pad or your fingertips, and gently rub it in. Use it twice a day — once in the morning and once in the evening. Always wash your hands after applying. Avoid getting it in your eyes, mouth, or nostrils — if you do, rinse the area immediately with plenty of cool water. Do not use more than directed, as applying extra lotion will not clear your skin faster but may increase the risk of irritation.
Most people begin to notice an improvement in their skin within a few weeks of starting Dalacin T, but it can take up to 8 to 12 weeks of consistent use to see the full benefit. It's very important not to stop using it as soon as your skin starts to improve — stopping too early can allow the bacteria to return and your acne to flare up again. If your skin hasn't improved after 6 weeks of regular use, speak to your clinician at Access Doctor who can review your treatment and advise on alternatives.
Dalacin T is generally well tolerated as a topical treatment. The most commonly reported side effect is skin dryness and mild irritation at the application site, which affects more than 1 in 10 users. Some people also notice oiliness, a slight stinging sensation, or a mild rash after application. One important but rare side effect to be aware of is diarrhoea — although this is much more common with oral antibiotics, some clindamycin can be absorbed through the skin. If you develop severe, persistent, or bloody diarrhoea at any point during or after using Dalacin T, stop using it immediately and contact your GP promptly, as this can occasionally be a sign of bowel inflammation.
No — you should not use Dalacin T at the same time as benzoyl peroxide-containing products such as Acnecide, unless your doctor has specifically told you to. Using both together can cause significant skin irritation. If your clinician at Access Doctor prescribes a combination of treatments, they will advise you on the safest way to use them together. There are specific combination products — such as Duac gel — that contain both clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide in a single, formulated product, and these are a safer way to use both ingredients simultaneously.
Dalacin T is not suitable for everyone. You should not use it if you have a known allergy to clindamycin or lincomycin, or if you have a history of inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis), or antibiotic-associated colitis. If you regularly experience diarrhoea after taking antibiotics, speak to your doctor before using Dalacin T. It is also not recommended for children under 12, and should only be used in pregnancy if your doctor has specifically advised it.
Dalacin T should only be used during pregnancy if your doctor has clearly advised that it is necessary and that the benefits outweigh any potential risks. It is not recommended during breastfeeding, as clindamycin can be absorbed through the skin in small amounts and may pass into breast milk. If you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or currently breastfeeding and need treatment for acne, speak to your GP or one of our clinicians at Access Doctor, who can advise on the safest treatment options available to you.
