What is Lymecycline?

A prescription-only medication, Lymecycline belongs to a group of medicines called tetracycline antibiotics and is mainly used to treat acne. It also treats other bacterial infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, some sexually transmitted infections as well as treating infections from lice, ticks and fleas.

Lymecycline attacks the bacteria that are one of the main causes of acne. The name of these bacteria is propionibacterium acnes.

How to use Lymecycline

Lymecycline comes in a 408mg strength capsule, and the recommended dose is one capsule of this medicine once daily, usually in the morning.

Swallow the capsule whole with a medium-sized glass of water. Lymecycline can be taken with or without food but you will have less risk of feeling sick if you take this medication with food.

It is important to continue taking this medicine until you complete the course of treatment, even if you start to feel better. We recommend a minimum treatment period of one month in order to see improvements to the skin, however, more persistent acne may require a 3-month course of treatment.

Stopping treatment early may result in the problem coming back.

In case you forget to take your medicine, take it as soon as you remember but do not double the dose of lymecycline as a makeup for a missed dose.

Can Lymecycline cause thrush?

You are at a slightly higher risk of thrush if you take Lymecycline. This is because as well as eliminating the bacteria on your skin, these antibiotics can destroy the Candida bacteria that combat thrush.

Symptoms of thrush include itching and redness in your mouth or genital area. You can treat these symptoms quickly and easily by using an anti-fungal treatment such as Fluconazole or Gyno-daktarin, both available through Access Doctor.
