What is Nystan (nystatin)?

The anti-fungal treatment called Nystan (Nystatin) is used to treat oral thrush, a condition caused by the growth of a naturally occurring fungus called Candida in the mouth.

Oral thrush symptoms include:

  • A nasty taste in the mouth
  • Cracks around the mouth's corners
  • Trouble eating or drinking
  • Mild bleeding when lumps are scraped away
  • Pain or burning sensation in the mouth
  • Appearance of white bumps on the tongue, in the cheeks, on the gums, or in the tonsils

You should speak to a doctor if you notice any of the above symptoms for the first time. Doctors can not only prescribe Nystatin, but also assess the reason for your condition. In addition, they can make recommendations on how to reduce the likelihood of you developing oral thrush in the future.

Nystatin is marketed under the brand name Nystan by Vygoris, or as a generic version.

Nystatin can be purchased from Access Doctor's online pharmacy in both generic and branded forms.

You can buy Nystatin oral suspension directly from Access Doctor's convenient online pharmacy without visiting your own GP. Simply complete one of our online consultation forms for one of our doctors to review. Orders we approve before 3pm on weekdays will be dispatched the same day for next-day delivery.

What is Nystan Oral Suspension used for?

In Nystan, the active ingredient is nystatin, which is effective in treating oral thrush.

Those over 18 years of age who are experiencing oral irritation caused by thrush can get a prescription of Nystan (nystatin) online through Access Doctor and start treatment without waiting for a doctor's appointment.

How is Nystatin used to treat fungal infections?

As an oral medication, Nystatin is taken four times daily.

Due to its direct application to the source of the fungal infection, nystatin begins to work quickly. Within the first two days of using nystatin, most users will notice a noticeable difference in their condition.

Is Nystan available over the counter?

You can get a prescription for Nystatin oral suspension through Access Doctor's online pharmacy without visiting your GP.

Fill out our online consultation form to be reviewed by one of our prescribers. We can dispatch your order for next-day delivery if your order is approved before 3:30pm on weekdays.

How does Nystatin work for oral thrush?

Nystatin works by weakening the cell walls of fungi, enabling their contents to leak out, killing the fungus and clearing infection.

To accomplish this, it binds to a chemical called ergosterol, which is essential for maintaining the membrane of the cells. As a result, the cell wall becomes weak and loses its structural integrity.

Nystatin will improve your symptoms within a day or two, but it is critical to continue taking Nystatin until the infection has been eradicated.

In the same way that antibiotics can cause relapses when they are stopped too early, Nystatin can do the same. As a result, you need to finish the antifungal treatment prescribed by your doctor.

Alternatives to Nystatin

At Access Doctor, we are only able to prescribe Nystatin online for those over 18 years of age as an effective prescription-only treatment for oral thrush.

Alternatively, Daktarin Oral Gel is an over-the-counter option for treating oral thrush. Suitable for adults and children over 4 months instead of Nystatin and is available from your local pharmacy without a prescription.

How to take Nystan
