Sandrena Gel

Sandrena Gel is a cream designed to help women during menopause. Menopause happens when a woman’s body makes less of a hormone called oestrogen, which can cause hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and discomfort.

The gel contains estradiol, similar to oestrogen, and it’s applied on the skin to help reduce menopause problems.

You can only request a repeat prescription for Sandrena Gel if you have previously had it prescribed by your own GP.

What is Sandrena Gel used for?

Sandrena Gel is a hormone replacement therapy used to treat symptoms of menopause in women. These symptoms can include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and vaginal discomfort.

How does Sandrena gel work?

When a woman goes through menopause (the end of her menstrual cycles) or has surgery to remove all or part of her reproductive organs, her body produces less oestrogen. This can lead to some uncomfortable changes.

Sandrena Gel is a man-made version of oestrogen known as estradiol. You apply it to your skin, and as the alcohol in the gel quickly evaporates, it allows the estradiol to pass through the skin and enter the bloodstream. This raises the body's oestrogen levels and helps to ease the symptoms associated with menopause.

What is the dosage for Sandrena Gel?

The gel should be applied directly to your skin, but you should avoid using it on your breasts, face, or any irritated or damaged skin areas. It is best to apply the gel on the lower part of your body or your thighs, and switch the application area between both sides of your body each day.

If you're new to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) or shifting from a period-free HRT, you can begin using Sandrena Gel immediately. However, if this is your first time being prescribed HRT, it's advisable to consult with your general practitioner or a menopause expert for additional guidance.

For those who still have their womb (those who haven't undergone a hysterectomy), it's crucial to consult with your doctor before using Sandrena Gel. They'll likely recommend another type of HRT that includes a different hormone, known as progesterone.

Are there any side effects of using Sandrena Gel?

There can be side effects, including nausea, bloating, breast tenderness, or headache. More serious side effects can include an increased risk of certain types of cancer and cardiovascular events. Always discuss potential side effects with your healthcare provider.

Can I use Sandrena Gel if I'm pregnant?

Sandrena Gel should not be used during pregnancy. It is intended for use in postmenopausal women.

Does Sandrena Gel work immediately?

No, Sandrena Gel may take a few weeks to start reducing menopausal symptoms. It's important to continue using it, even if you don't notice immediate improvement.

Can I stop using Sandrena Gel abruptly?

No, you should not stop using Sandrena Gel without first consulting your healthcare provider. Stopping suddenly may cause your symptoms to return.

Please remember to consult your healthcare provider for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
